BBC Broadcasting House Extension Phase II
The BBC Broadcasting House has had a major renovation, restoring the original building and incorporating new extensions with a project cost of £1.65 billion, with the lead contractor Bovis Lend Lease Ltd.
The second phase of the project was the creation of a huge wing to the rear of the building, joining the two existing buildings, and creating a piazza between them. The new building contains state of the art technical equipment and new studios to house the BBC News bulletins on television, the BBC News Channel as well as BBC World News, the BBC Arabic Television service and the BBC Persian Television service. At the heart of this is a new, pillar-less newsroom, the largest live newsroom in the world with a floor area of 4,000 m. sq. The new build comprises 80,000m sq of production areas, studios and various staff facilities and is provided with full air conditioning systems for both comfort cooling and to counter the very large equipment cooling requirement.
Euroflo Group Ltd provided a complete commissioning package to the installation contractors, covering commissioning management, precommission cleaning of all closed water heating and cooling systems, disinfection of domestic water services and commissioning of all piped mechanical engineering services.
